Any time you’re writing content for the web, it’s important to know your target audience so you can produce effective content.
Productspec’s audience is varied, but there’s one overarching theme which establishes a baseline for effective content:
- Users are seeking information relating to building products and suppliers, that will ultimately support a design or building decision
The audience is comprised of both industry professionals and consumers, visiting the site in its capacity as either a technical database, or showroom. Information that visitors come to the site seeking out, typically relates to one of the following categories:
- Mixed Use
Whether a visitor to your page has a technical or non-technical background will influence their comprehension of certain types of information. Additionally their informational needs will be influenced by their familiarity (or lack thereof) with certain products or brands.
By way of example, take the following use cases, both of which are known Productspec user-groups, when creating a new product or project page:
- An architect seeking detailed product specifications for a product they routinely specify
- A homeowner conducting exploratory building materials research for a renovation project
